Mother’s Day

IMG_5932

Today is Mother’s Day! Let’s take a closer look on the many aspects of Motherhood.

IMG_6949

This is my beautiful Mother, Ondra von Der Hansjakobstadt.

IMG_9604

She won many prizes at numerous exhibitions. Here she is 10 months old. She was a wonderful Mom to many puppies.

Veronica fell in love with her the first time she saw her, at 18 months, and decided she wanted one of her pups.

4B2D13F6-6523-4301-A538-ED6B26D2A15C 2 copy

Here, she’d just won the great title, BOB (Best of Breed) in an exhibition. Andy and Jacky were very proud.

I think she’s gorgeous.

IMG_6947

I was part of her last litter. The plan was for her to enjoy life with Andy, Jacky and all their Boxers in their beautiful home

Destiny decided otherwise. When I was 8 weeks old, Andy found a little Bump. He called it a Mammary Tumor.

A few weeks later Ondra had to leave for Fairyland, she was only 6 years old. She gave all her last energy and strength to her babies before saying farewell.

Last but not least, my “Person Mom”, Veronica.

…again and again.

IMG_9699.jpeg

A Mother provides fun toys and doesn’t yell at you when you loose them.

IMG_9696.jpeg

A Mother understands that some things are very scary, like swimming in deep water.

A Mother may say the most irritating things in front of your friends and makes you feel utterly embarrassed.

img_7299

A Mother provides you with a good, basic education

img_7300

she understands that sometimes it’s difficult to perform…

img_7298

…even very difficult. A Mother just smiles and says that you’re probably very tired.

IMG_8516.jpeg

A Mother constantly worries about your wellbeing. Your health as well as your happiness

She will comfort you when you fell sad.

IMG_9701.jpeg

A Mother serves your favourite dinner.

IMG_1589

A Mother understands that sometimes you feel grumpy…very grumpy.

IMG_0621.jpeg

A Mother invites your BFF for a sleepover and doesn’t get upset when you’re tired because you played all night.

IMG_7525

A Mother comforts and looks after you when you’re ill and feeling miserable.

IMG_0554

Most of all, A Mother loves you, like nobody else. Unconditional love.

IMG_0686.jpg

Today is Mother’s Day. A Mother might, at times, drive you crazy, embarrass you, overprotect you, and fuss for just about anything.

Remember, it’s because she loves you so much and only want’s your best. (Incidentally she often knows what’s the best for you. Yes she does!)

Be indulgent and give her a big hug.

Happy Mother’s Day!

The Bunny Watch

IMG_8909.jpeg

I’m very excited! Its Easter and more importantly: THE EASTER BUNNY is coming!

This year, I want to see him. Why is he so sneaky? I think it’s because he knows a “Badass Boxer” is living here. He’s probably worried I might chase him. Rest assured, I wouldn’t be that stupid, it’s like biting Santa…duh!

IMG_8914.jpeg

The “mandatory” Easter decorations are out. The traditional feathers are taunting me. Unfortunately, this year NO opportunity for the “Feather Game”. Veronica’s keeping a close watch.

The good news about the whole “Easter affair”: NO “Bunny/Egg” music! Not like the extremely irritating, endless, all day long X-Mas melodies.

IMG_9021

All would be fine and merry if it wasn’t for a few minor, unimportant (in my opinion) events clouding my horizon.

I don’t know how thorough the Easter Bunny is in his Egg distribution. This surely can’t be as serious as the whole “Be good and Santa will give you gifts” phenomenon.

We’re talking about one egg! ONE! (Incidentally, why can’t we get, let’s say, three?)

IMG_8921.jpeg

I did, totally by mistake, play with Baby L’s book.

When discovered, I went for the “I’ve no idea why the book is lying there” attitude. Most unfortunately this did not fool Veronica.

Apparently I have “too many priors” so she said. Not even giving me the benefit of the doubt. Who does she think she is anyway? The “Supreme Judge”?

Actually, that’s exactly what she think she is. Gee, is she opinionated and judgemental!! (It’s a family thing).

IMG_9034.jpeg

Then there was the coaster matter. All because of the “My beautiful new table” business.

Veronica recently acquired this, rather fragile I may add, table. It comes from a special Swedish store.

Listen to this: you cannot put ANYTHING upon it endless there is a coaster! This has become one big family joke, they all tease her.

“Oh Dennis, you forgot the coaster…and you’re still alive??”  “OH MY GOD! Alert! Toy without a coaster, Baby L you’re in trouble”…and so on..

IMG_9127.jpeg

Who in their right mind, with a big family and dogs, buys such a table? I ask you? Not only is it super delicate, also she’s become this very annoying “Table Supervisor”!

We’re all kind of sick of it.

IMG_8929.jpeg

Anyway, I stole a coaster, ran to my bed…Well let’s just say, nothing escapes the supreme “Table Supervisor”. What’s the big deal? She has plenty of stupid coasters!

You now get the gist of my “Egg concern”.

IMG_9108.jpeg

Finally it’s Easter Saturday, or “The Bunny day” as I call it. I’m keeping close watch, this time I’m going to catch him at it.

I might actually go for the “If I don’t get an egg I will chase you” angle, just to show him who’s in charge here.

IMG_8799.jpg

Meanwhile, Veronica is busy decorating her table. I’m not allowed anywhere near it, they say chocolate is poisonous for dogs.

Apparently, one time my Lego ate a whole box and had to go to the emergency veterinarian. Scary story.

691C5BFB-7BD3-4AB4-AEC2-3499D80D9CE9.JPG

As soon as the family arrives, out of the blue, Baby L gets a gift!! For no reason! The injustice of it. That child is way too spoiled!

I have to be on a leash. (Controlled by Baby L…of course). In order not to get “too excited”  (Dixit the “Table Supervisor”) what with everyone and Indya.

Apparently I’m still in rehab program.

IMG_8873.jpeg

Veronica calls out, “Egg hunt: one, two, three, go!”!

What??? Did I miss the “Easter Bunny” AGAIN??!!

As expected, Baby L gets a huge egg with loads of stuff in it, toys, dried fruit, and a very small box of candy. What about me?

IMG_8899.jpeg

I needn’t worry, (Pheww!) NC takes me on my personal egg hunt and deep in a bush…

10C50884-D476-482F-A1EE-A2BDEA6D0891.JPG

…is my very private egg. (I get the impression it’s slightly smaller then last year…hmmm)

4D2B5B78-D0B6-4C5F-B4B1-930CA5309C74.JPG

Inside is a multicolour bunny. A bunny? Really?

E35A3A50-8C50-493E-8D40-3C765370C7D7.JPG

Yeah, yeah, I get the message: “Don’t chase me! Play with your own bunny”. (I might…or might not chase the bunnies in the fields though!)

IMG_8864.jpeg

It is a happy, merry, fun day…

IMG_8910.jpeg

…for everyone! (Dennis always makes sure we get some left overs).

IMG_8796.jpeg

No holiday or special event without the traditional, official picture. As you all know by now, modelling is my strength.

Isn’t that pic great? (I still don’t understand why the publicity agencies haven’t contacted us?)

IMG_9110.jpeg

House is empty and I’m happy and exhausted.

What? The wood chips? Oh that’s nothing… forget it, pretend you didn’t see it…please.

Happy Easter!

The Tumor

78048D0F-BE49-41DA-9537-551887A35717

I have news for you. I’m going to have yet another surgery! Yes! Can you believe that? Crazy!

IMG_8308.jpeg

It just so happens that I have a small bump on my hind leg. It’s nothing, just a tiny bump. Nevertheless it has to be removed.

So they say.

IMG_8314

This is Dr C, she works with Dr L. (Who, as you might recall, abandoned me without fair warning, and went to California for a year!)

Dr C says my bump is “a Tumor”, and has a weird name “Soft Tissue Sarcoma”. Apparently it’s a form of something called Cancer, whatever that is.

Surgery is scheduled in a week. I’m only a little nervous, this is not my first rodeo! After the ligament ordeal, the bump is probably a walk through the park.

8DD7B81E-00A2-4F15-8989-4B8D801F456C.JPG

Only, I don’t understand why Veronica is looking so sad? Dr C said it’s a minor intervention. No need to look that upset.

IMG_8336.jpeg

She should be happy, I’m finally allowed off the leash! First time in 10 weeks. I still have to be super careful though.

IMG_8028

I’m even allowed to run a little. So why is Veronica so gloomy? Is she sick?

27EB73BE-4AF8-4F02-B3C7-8DE7068F8F89.JPG

I try to cheer her up with a small, special, prank of mine. That usually brings out a reaction between laughs and exasperation.

But no, she vaguely smiles and doesn’t even pick up the paper? What’s wrong with her?

IMG_8341.jpeg

Tomorrow is the day. I’ll probably have to wear that awful torture cone again? Great!! Well, as they say here: “Jamais deux sans trois”.

IMG_8309.jpeg

Dennis comes with us. Look at his face, oh c’mon guys, enough with the tragic looks.

Dr C said I’ll be up and about in no time. (We’ll see about that though) Tumor gone. Et voila. Problem solved.

IMG_8358.jpeg

Here the routine is always the same. The weighing of the dog. I now weigh 30.8 kg, pretty perfect with my 56 cm, I think.

(I’m not chubby! I have big muscles, even Dr L says so)

IMG_8312 2.jpeg

I put on my best “Zen Boxer” attitude…inside my stomach is full of worried butterflies!

“A walk through the park”?…hmm… On second thought more like “Crawling through a dark scary forest”!

IMG_8313.jpeg

Dr C tells me I’m a very good girl. Duh, we all know that. “Felicia this is an easy intervention”

P L E A S E: Let me be the judge of “easy” or otherwise!

C10A8987-57FF-43C4-A9B9-578011A30D7E

This IS easy! I’m feeling a little tired but otherwise not bad. This is nothing like the ligament surgery.

And NO CONE! Yes!

IMG_8360.jpeg

Only one, super embarrassing fact; they shaved my butt! Just look how ugly it is.

What if we walk through the neighbourhood?? Polka might see me. Not to mention the little “full-of-himself Jack Russell” down the road, he’ll have a field day.

And I’ll have a huge ugly scar!

E99787BE-D351-4B01-A805-9D9C3A3651D5

Wait a minute…a scar…hmmm…but that can actually be kind of cool! I have two scars now. I’ll be like “Indiana Jones”!

Incidentally, we love those movies, that is Veronica and I. She thinks he’s very handsome, I couldn’t agree more.

Her sister, SPS, is with her on that one. (And she is a Veterinarian behaviourist, remember!!)

(Dennis’s opinion is unknown)

Yeah! I’ll be “The Indiana Jones of Dogs” Ha! Beware of “The-Adventurous-Badass-Scarred-Boxer”.

Yeah, that’ll be me!

IMG_8367.jpeg

To my great relief, no neighbourhood walk!

We head into the woods. Weather is lovely, flowers everywhere and I’m feeling great. The stitches don’t bother me at all. (No glue here)

We’re in for a huge surprise next day:

IMG_8391 2.jpeg

SNOW!!! And loads of it. Dennis decides we should take a walk up on the fields. “It will be good for building her muscles”.

Only, Dennis did NOT listen to Veronica’s advice to wear proper snow shoes… After 5 minutes he had to return and wait in the car, feet soaked.

Veronica, very gracefully, did not say “I told you so”. (Maybe only once…or twice!)

339D00E3-F28A-451F-A73C-60446C85E7ED.JPG

What is it with men? Can’t they listen to friendly advice??? Oh no!

Don’t get me started on asking for directions…I could write a book on that subject, illustrated with numerous examples.

What’s wrong with them??? My theory: they hate to admit they can be wrong, that’ll make them appear weak…so they think!! Pathetic!

It’s simple: listen to the women, they know it all. And they’re right!

As for Dennis: This is NOT California!

304E023C-5D7D-4DAE-9671-79A87BE073C2

Tomorrow we’re going back to see Dr C to remove the stitches. I hope it’s not going to hurt.

Even the ” Adventurous-Badass-Scarred-Boxer”, is allowed to feel pain! Right?

What? A wimp? No, no, don’t you listen to Dennis, “A wimp”, ridiculous! (This coming from the guy wearing sneakers in wet snow!)

30FB4856-7C2C-47D5-8D81-EEDDE31A8C69.JPG

Stitches are gone! Didn’t feel a thing! There’s a whole lot of talking. I only half listen, frankly my bump is gone, what do I care.

Veronica has her “Concerned-serious” expression on.

I vaguely pick up a few words; “Sarcoma grade two”, “regular controls”, “6 weeks”…yeah, yeah, whatever!

203740DD-5CCA-4420-A4FA-0935DA13A47A

Back home Veronica hugs me, “Allt kommer att bli bra, min älskade lilla Felicia” (“Everything will be fine my darling little Felicia”).

She’s all emotional.

BF92C00C-3F4D-47AF-AD21-6C4C5A48313A.JPG

I’m the “Adventurous-Badass-Scarred-Boxer”, remember? I’ll be fine…only…please, no more surgeries.

My thanks go to Dr Delphine Carquillat for doing her best to free my Felicia from her Sarcoma.

The Surgery

350AB6CA-7618-4172-AC3A-AA6296745EA9.JPG

I’m feeling very scared. This is D-Day: The Surgery! Anybody in their right mind would be! (see “The Torn Ligament”)

My leg is going to be CUT OPEN! Freaky! I will be asleep all along and feel nothing…so they say. Supposedly Dr B is a big shot surgeon.

Are we sure about that? Has Veronica even seen his credentials? What is she basing this fact on??? Her vast medical experience??

IMG_7971.jpg

Here he is, Dr B, I grudgingly have to admit he’s very nice and friendly. At first sight at least. (That’s before cutting me open!)

He explains that he will perform a TTA (some kind of fancy procedure) and put a titanium (whatever that is) piece in my leg and it will heal together.

(Tibial Tuberosity Advancement)

IMG_7976.jpeg

Turns out this Dr B actually IS a big shot. Apparently he was part of the team that created this method, the TTA. He has performed this intervention on more than a 1000 dogs!!

Can you believe that??!! WOW, I mean WOW!!

I, for one, think he has a super cool hat! Like a hippie surgeon. What’s more, he’s married to the other Dr B!!! The wonderful Ophthalmologist! Remember her?

I feel absolutely confident, I’m going to be fine.

IMG_7524.jpeg

I’m so not fine!! I feel horrible. The assistants had to carry me into the car. I’m shaking and freezing. And I have that stupid cone on…again!

When Veronica saw me she burst into tears. As much as I appreciate her concern, this is a little embarrassing. (Get a grip, I’m alive!)

She covers me with her soft vest. Feels really good.

IMG_7526.jpeg

I have no stitches. Dr B glued the wound together. (Glue? Really?) He said my operation went very well. My ligament was torn up to 60%.

Right now that’s not my main concern.

IMG_7525.jpeg

I’m feeling miserable and Veronica puts her cashmere scarf over me. I don’t want to drink or eat or anything.

Veronica sleeps on the sofa that night and checks on me every hour. Pouring water into my mouth with a spray. Feels kind of nice.

IMG_7528

Slowly but surely I emerge from my deep state of unpleasantness. I had no idea surgery could be this exhausting.

Veronica has arranged all my beds on the ground floor, so I have a choice. (As you know, I have quite the collection) She’s blocked the stairs. I cannot access my comfy night chair. Very irritating!

IMG_7529.jpeg

While they’re having dinner, I sneak up on the sofa…serves them right. (At this stage any kind of revenge feels good.)

When found out, Veronica freaks out big time; “OMG… OMG…what if she hurt herself…!!! I have to call Dr B” (Thank god Dennis puts a stop to this silly idea!)

FYI she already called Dr B at least 3 or 4 times with all sorts of silly questions! Frankly embarrassing!!

IMG_6321

Turns out post surgery is dull. I can’t do anything, I just have to lie there. Veronica stays with me ALL THE TIME.

“I don’t want to leave her alone, she might hurt herself”.

Told you, pathetic! I have a theory: it’s an age thing. She was never like that with her previous dogs or even her children.

IMG_7989.jpeg

First ten days I’m only allowed out on sanitary walks in the garden. On the bright side, without my cone!

1F8FB817-6D7C-4AB5-8E9D-997C89755599.JPG

Finally, cone misery over!

IMG_7994.jpeg

We progress to 10 minutes walks outside the garden. Each week we can add 3 minutes. Trust Veronica to follow instructions strictly.

She bosses other family members around, (i.e. Dennis), on how to handle a convalescent Boxer.

She’s such a control freak!

IMG_6832.jpeg

This is Dr F, he’s a physiotherapist/osteopath, and what’s more, he knows SPS. That’s to say: he’s a cool guy!

He treats not only dogs, but horses and even the animals in the local zoo.

He comes once a week for my home physiotherapy sessions. I adore him, he’s so nice, and has a magic touch. I love these moments.

85FFE787-9989-4514-84F6-1EE6F009E662.JPG

This is his dog, Skan, a “Kleiner Münsterländer”. She’s very beautiful, adorable, perfect and obeys. In other words; another of those goodie, goodie dogs.

No, I’m not jealous! Just saying.

IMG_7214.JPG

Remember my B-day bed? Well…as I was slightly bored…I kind of got distracted. I had no idea it would rip that easily.

What can I say, a Boxer girl needs stimulation during this difficult time!

(Incidentally the bed is now perfectly repaired by a local, miracle (Veronica’s words) seamstress.

IMG_7246.jpeg

Veronica was not happy, to say the least. She organises indoor activities: she ordered a “Ruffle Snuffle” mat. “Search for the candy”.

9A9C0121-00DD-49E2-9149-0216A75866E5.JPG

“Where’s the treat”?

52942D38-94AE-427B-9F6F-B83A2BCE35C3.JPG

“Rip out the dental bone”.

IMG_8064.jpeg

“Candy hide and Seek”

IMG_7957 2.jpeg

Who knew indoor activities could be so exhausting. It’s been 8 weeks since my surgery and tomorrow we’re going to see Dr B.

IMG_7973

Dr B has to be my favourite Surgeon in the world. He takes an x-Ray and declares my bone 100% healed. From now on we have to build up my muscles. Music to my ears and…

IMG_7997.jpeg

…I can FINALLY sleep in my upstairs chair. Yes Dr B you’re the best!

Many thanks to:

Dr Luc Borer for performing such a perfect surgery on my Felicia. I am grateful for the patience and kindness of the whole “Vetchirurgie team”, whenever I called…slightly worried.

http://www.vetchirurgie.ch

Dr Jérome Föllmi for helping my Felicia get back on track, for his patience and friendliness. Felicia highly enjoys those Physio sessions.

Accueil

I can recommend both these excellent Veterinarians, they’re not only very nice, but also very talented.

Valentine

IMG_7325.JPG

My life is rather dull at the moment, as you can imagine. Therefore it’s the perfect time to talk about love and friendship.

Veronica loves Valentine’s Day. (Like that’s a big surprise). She loves everything remotely Valentinish. The flowers, the hearts, the chocolates, the music and…OMG…the super cheesy love movies! She spends hours watching them.

IMG_1912.JPG

Hallmark, Hollywood, Indie anything goes…as expected she gets very emotional and cries a lot. (Even though the scenario is ALWAYS, roughly, the same.)

How on earth can any normal person cry when you know EXACTLY how it ends? LOOOOVE conquers everything and the final scene is, without any doubt, the height of cheesiness!!

I sometimes seriously doubt her sanity in the matter. (Dennis is NOT part of the whole “Crazy/love/binge/movie/time”)

IMG_7392.jpeg

Surprisingly enough Veronica has no Valentine decorations. (At Christmas we’re invaded and now nothing! Go figure!)

She has, however, acquired a rather large number of mugs (You can see she has a slight problem here!) I will not divulge the provider not to embarrass her any further.

IMG_7388.jpeg

I have a whole bunch of Valentine gear, (that’s to be expected). She actually bought them for my Lego. “Felicia, love is in the air, you have to be part of it”

IMG_3659

There was the year of “The Valentine Pic”. I was 12 months old. I have to say, I think I look very cute! (See, already the perfect model)

7F2587AF-D559-4F62-AF94-AD6CF413FD26.JPG

Incidentally, why only that one year? I have to endure, B-day pics, easter Pics and of course X-mas pics. EVERY SINGLE YEAR. Why not Valentine’s Day?

Wasn’t I cute enough? Didn’t I perform like expected? (Especially considering my young age!) I’m frankly a bit vexed!

Whatever!

IMG_7377.JPG

We have to take a moment here to admire my gorgeous Valentine gift. Veronica ordered it especially for me from Sweden. It’s very comfy in fleece, that pink is a great colour. Don’t you think I look cute?  (I absolutely deserve a Valentine gift this year!)

Let’s talk about my own feelings. (All anti-Valentine people can leave now!)

IMG_6914 3

I love Veronica and Dennis.

Life with them is fun, and full of adventures. They love me and I’m mostly well treated. Obviously there is room for improvement. Off the top of my head; sleep on ALL sofas, and all beds.

04112018-DSC_8601.jpeg

I love my big crazy family. The whole lot! Yes, even Baby L. (I still think she gets WAY too much attention, let alone gifts!!)

IMG_7334.JPG

I love my BFF Indya. There is only this one tiny hitch: she’s a little full of herself just because she’s faster than me. (She has really long legs!) I’m built differently, I have big muscles (even Dr L says so).

Now of course, with my convalescence, I can’t run at all. Hmmm…yes! But of course!!  “Oh no…what with my surgery, I’m not allowed to run, what a shame. Sorry Indya”

He he! She’ll have to stop gloating

IMG_0992.jpg

To refute the numerous rumours that Veronica has spread about me, I’m happy to say there are A LOT of dogs I love. (Well a few)

Corinne’s June. A fun Border Collie, she’s super fast and very smart and knows all these tricks.

IMG_7341

Inook the Beauceron, we’re the same age and he is the friendliest dog ever, with EVERYONE!

Doesn’t he look cute?

IMG_1487.jpeg

Mylo, the Australian Shepard. He won the agility competition two years in row, I came second. (He was just a tad faster than me). He’s one laid back Aussie.

IMG_0793

SPS’s cutie pugs, Rose and Yoda. They’re the sweetest pugs ever. I love hanging out with them. They’re friendly and very funny.

IMG_2565.jpeg

Fred, the American bulldog. Isn’t he handsome? He used to live on my street, so sad they had to move. I miss him.

IMG_7344

We adored each other, I think it might be a nose thing.

IMG_7350.jpeg

Polka, my neighbour. (A Polski Owczarek Nizinny). She’s full of pep, and barks quite a lot. We play…sometimes.

IMG_7349

I think she’s kind of clingy. I mostly ignore her, waiting by the fence. This irritates Veronica, “Felicia, go and say hello to sweet Polka. Be nice now.”

I am nice! I just need some space.

IMG_7352.jpeg

Erasme, the gorgeous Weimaraner. I adore him. I’m a little intimidated when he’s around. I always let him play with my toys, I really don’t mind.

What? No, don’t listen to Veronica; it’s not because he told me to “bug off” the other day. It’s proper guest etiquette.

IMG_7354

Not a day goes by that I don’t think about my Lego. My surrogate Mom, my comfort blanket, my everything. I miss her.

I loved her so much. I hope she’s having fun in Fairyland. Perhaps one day I can go there too.

IMG_7380

Today is the day to celebrate Love. For me there is one and only, I care more about than anyone in the whole world…

Who’s yours?

Happy Valentine’s Day!

You like Felicia’s collar?:

The Homebound Birthday

IMG_6568.jpeg

Today is my Birthday, I’m the Birthday Girl and I’m not happy. Why? You ask why? Didn’t you read my recent story??!!

I’ve had surgery! Remember? I cannot run, hardly even leave my home, what with the restricted 10 minutes walks.

(FYI I will tell you all about that ordeal when it’s over, in later story)

IMG_6605 2

Usually Veronica and Dennis have special plans for me. Last year we went up to this beautiful lake.

What fun can there be with a handicapped dog??? I ask you??? Probably nothing! They might even ignore my birthday.

IMG_6261

I needn’t worry. In Veronica’s world, celebrations are NEVER ignored! (For better and for worse.)

“Happy Birthday my Felicia. Today will be a quiet but fun day. No less”.

IMG_6540.jpeg

“This year I ordered a special gift for you. I know you’ll love”.

What’s this? Cloud7? Wow, it’s a huge box. What can be inside?

IMG_6541.jpeg

I wonder…hmmm….

IMG_6545.JPG

Is this what I think it is??? It’s “The Dog Bed Siesta Teddy”??!! WOW!

IMG_6548

OMG is this comfy…so soft…I love it!! I know Veronica has been talking about this one but decided against yet another bed. Supposedly I have too many, so she says.

Here is why this statement is totally false:

1. Bed in the entrance

2. Bed upstairs

3. Dog mat next to Veronica’s computer

4. Bed in the living room

See, they all fill their purpose. (Also there is a slot open in the bedroom!) There are comfortable sofas and chairs all over the house for the humans. I should be subject to the same grade of dog comfort!

Incidentally, if I have too many beds, what about Veronica’s handbags??? Yeah, yeah, she can talk the talk but not walk the walk!!

IMG_6537.jpeg

I think she ordered it because of my surgery, she’s feeling sorry for me. Not only did she buy the bed but also two soft fleece blankets.

IMG_6696

It’s time to brace myself for “The Talk”, the “Now you’re six years old so please start acting your age” talk. (It’s kind of a thing, “The Birthday talk”.)

I always adopt a neutral expression, pretending to listen but thinking “Bla, bla, bla whatever. I’ll act as I find befitting!)

But there’s no talk!! I can’t believe this!! NO TALK! What’s going on here?

Ok, it’s official, she’s feeling VERY sorry for me. (I suddenly see many more advantages ahead)

IMG_6602.JPG

Sadly she did not skip the Birthday picture!! (Feeling sorry clearly has its limits).

“Felicia let’s take the Birthday picture”. Has she ever asked herself what I want? Do I want to ridicule myself with a red Bow? Duh, NO!

But as I already pointed out…many, many times over; Veronica is a tad Bossy…(remember the sign her friend gave her?) In her defence though, I get generously rewarded.

“Look at her, she’s so cute”… (Pathetic is more the word) She keeps the bow in a special drawer. (Probably to make sure nobody throws it away!)

IMG_6673

This is the fun part, my cake and my gift. And of course the candles (Totally unnecessary in my opinion, but they make Veronica happy.)

“Dennis, it’s a Birthday and there should always be candles” she told him when he tried to object. (Here again we see that “sympathetic” character trait.)

The cake looks delicious! The gift is actually from Cloud7, they must surely know I had surgery and want to spoil me. (As I should be, what with my sad condition)

IMG_6675.JPG

The cake is DELICIOUS! Very yummy. I gulp it down real quick. Dennis was so shocked at the rapidity of the whole business.

“Did you see that?? OMG She swallowed the whole piece! Felicia this is a Swiss Bio Burger, you need to savour it”

It’s MY Birthday I can savour the cake anyway I like

IMG_6677.jpeg

Let’s deal with the gift.

IMG_6676.jpeg

I love wrapping paper. And I love gifts.

IMG_6678.jpeg

A cloth bone. Cool! Thank you Cloud7, you know how to make a Boxer girl happy.

IMG_6679.jpeg

Ok, I need to rest, this was tiring. (No, it’s not because I ate too fast!)

IMG_6703.jpeg

As a Birthday activity for a convalescent Boxer, Veronica organised a “treasure hunt” in the living room.

I.e. She has hidden candy all over the place.

Due to my condition, I have to search very slowly, as not to harm my leg.

IMG_6694.jpeg

I’m so tired! Who would think a simple “Stay at home Birthday” could be this exhausting.

“The brave, convalescent Boxer Felicia, needs rest after her many, challenging, Birthday activities.”

Thank you Cloud7 team for sending a gift Bone to my Birthday Boxer, Felicia.

The Torn Ligament

IMG_6142.jpeg

I am feeling very depressed at the moment.

I just got back from the Veterinarian/Orthopaedic/Surgeon, Dr B: I have a partially torn ligament in my rear knee.

Next week I’m getting surgery…SURGERY!! I mean that’s cutting up my leg….and the convalescence is supposed to be very long.

IMG_6299.JPG

I’ve not really understood exactly how things are going to be. I don’t care if you think I’m a wimp, but I’m really scared.

I don’t even know what happened? Yes, I’ve been limping off and on for some time. but honestly I thought it was nothing. Well, it just goes to show!

img_6303

Why do all my problems occur when my favorite Dr L is abroad? I ask you! First the eye, now the knee. The unfairness of it. I’ll give him a piece of my mind as soon a he’s back.

I know, I know, Dr B is a top skilled surgeon, but still. Dr L should be here to comfort me.

IMG_6262.jpeg

Veronica is worried, to say the least. Freaking out is more like it. Apparently her first Boxer, Ficelle, went through the same ordeal. (In that case shouldn’t she be more zen?)

She’s very sad and keeps on texting all the details to her dog friends and of course, her sister, SPS. (The Veterinarian behaviourist) . “They’d want to be informed” so she says.

Too much information?

IMG_5226.jpeg

She even called YH, her Swedish Boxer friend, the one that has owned 11 Boxers. “Just brainstorming” She told Dennis. Yeah sure…more like “unload my stress” kind of thing.

Here YH is with Lux, her youngest Boxer.

IMG_6163.jpeg

Meanwhile I have to stay on the leash at all times. Only slow walks. I must not weaken my leg even more, so they say.

IMG_6215.jpeg

To keep me busy Veronica spreads out my food all over the house.

IMG_6271.jpeg

She hides goodies in boxes for me to search for.

img_6216

But a big, active Boxer girl like me needs more, much more…and I distract myself best I can.

Incidentally I had no idea these were slippers, let alone Veronica’s. (FYI I did not even chew them.)

Veronica hardly reacted, that’s to say how upset she is by my current condition.

IMG_6190.jpeg

What made the time until the surgery easier were the Stockholm guests. This is Ulrika, she is Veronica’s super close friend and she loves me.

I can cuddle with her all the time, she never sends me away. Also, she’s feeling very sorry for me.

IMG_6247.jpeg

Hedda’s even more cuddly, if that’s even possible. She spent hours with me, talking to me.

“Don’t worry Felicia, all will be fine” I love Hedda she’s the best. This is my favourite thing: being the center of attention!

I only wish it was for something brave like rescuing a puppy or chasing away a burglar! “Felicia, the brave Boxer, saves the day”.

A Boxer girl is allowed to dream! Like there’s a rule?

img_0495

The Stockholm friends are a dog family. They own an adorable (so Veronica thinks) Schapendoes girl.

Veronica tells me we’d be great friends. Not so sure about that. I will express an opinion when, and only when, we’ve been properly introduced.

I might, or might not like her.

IMG_6158.jpeg

Tomorrow is the big day.

Veronica tells me I couldn’t be in better hands then with Dr B. Easy for her to say, she’s not the one getting her knee cut up!

I’m very nervous and worried. Will I be able to run again? To play with Inook? To go on long walks in the woods?

IMG_6300.jpeg

Guys, has anyone of you ever had that procedure? The torn ligament? Did you survive? Did it hurt? Can you run again?

Please share your experience with me.

“Felicia, the brave Boxer girl, facing surgery”. (At least that sounds like I’m brave, which I’m not…at all…but shhh lets keep that that our little secret)

Dear Santa

IMG_4940.jpeg

It’s that time of the year, the pre-Christmas rush. I’m especially worried since I overheard Veronica saying: “This year we’re doing Secret Santa”.

Secret? I don’t like the sound of that…Probably something to do with Santa’s “Naughty or Nice” list.

Secret who’s Naughty or Nice. Secret there might be less gifts. Worse, secret, Santa is not coming…

img_2149

What? There is no Santa? I beg to differ. Just look here, Trilby the Briard met him. See, REAL SANTA!

There’s only one solution, send a message to Santa. I, for one, deserve gifts, I’m definitely Nice!

Incidentally, if he needs help, I can come up with a few “Naughty Names”. Irrelevant? You know what, why don’t you take care of your own letter to Santa and let me handle mine.

IMG_5818

Ok, down to business:

“Dear Santa,

I’m a sweet, gorgeous, gentle, generous”…(oh, let’s not overdo this), “nice Boxer girl. I want to show you just why I deserve gifts. I’ve been a good Boxer girl”.

IMG_5363.JPG

“On numerous, not easy occasions I behaved in an exemplary way. Here are a few random examples:”

“The other day, coming home from the morning walk I HAD TO SIT IN THE FRONT of the car. Yes, in the front!! Just because of Baby L’s stroller takes up the back” (Her again!)

“Did I complain? No. Was I happy? No! See Santa, perfect behaviour”.

“FYI: I was not responsible for the mud on Dennis’s pants. Veronica forgot to bring the towel.”

IMG_5374.JPG

“At the lake I did not chase the swans, I sat, just like Veronica asked me. Exemplary . . .” (hm, already used that word) “very good behaviour in a tempting situation.”

(No! Once and for all, I’m not scared of Swans and that’s not why I obeyed.)

IMG_5367.JPG

“I played very gently with Little E.”  (That I got candy all the time is beside the point.)

IMG_5820

“When Baby L insists on holding the leash, I walk very slowly not pulling. I know she’s only 18 months”  (Yes, Veronica held the leash too, no need to point it out.)

IMG_5823.JPG

“Dear Santa, as I’m an honest Boxer girl, I will even admit the very few and unimportant blunders of this year.”

IMG_5392.jpeg

“The Paperwork. I just love it. See, I’m actually helping out here. This Opera program was destined for the Paper trash anyway”

(Santa doesn’t need to know Veronica was planning on keeping it).

IMG_5364.JPG

“Veronica does not understand my immense interest in digging. I call this being focused.”

First of all let’s state the obvious:

She is incapable of doing just that, focus! She’s constantly all over the place, and during  conversations, she jumps from one topic to another so nobody understands what she’s talking about”

(I suspect, she’s jealous of my capacity).

IMG_5361

“Dear Santa, I’m not going to bore you with more stories.

Just take into consideration the fact that I actually confessed some of my less glorious moments of the year.

And please Santa, don’t put Veronica on the naughty side, she might be bossy and scattered, but she’s a good person and deserves a gift.”

Boxer Felicia von der Andreashöhe

IMG_2486.JPG

Santa came at night, while we were all sleeping.

I am seriously worried though. there are very few gifts under the tree…I knew this “Secret Santa” business was bad news.

I take it upon myself to spend the days here, guarding the tree. I’ve heard of rogue elves, wild trolls, or even thieves stealing the whole lot, you never know.

IMG_5566

This is my family on Christmas eve. Or rather part of it, well Veronica’s lot. And there was a Christmas miracle.

EC came in a suit!!! He’s a geek, he NEVER wears that kind of stuff. I was in shock! The whole family was in shock! Veronica even cried (Yes I know, pathetic. What’s with the crying all the time?)

Side note: have you seen NC’s cool sweater?

IMG_5561.jpg

As expected, Baby L was the centre of attention! Guess that from now on it’s always all about her.

IMG_5893.JPG

Never about us, we even had to stay in the hallway due to “Excessive Christmas enthusiasm”!!

IMG_5894 copy

There was a big moment of ridicule when Veronica and ZC decided this year we have to do the dance. Dancing Boxers were not appreciated. (That’s when we got sent away)

Swedes love dancing and playing games, and don’t get me started on the Midsummer festivities….oh just a glimpse.

IMG_5897.JPG

Look at this:  Fully grown adult Swedes! Just stick a pole in the ground and the trick is done. Very strange.

Apparently, last summer in Sweden, Veronica forced Dennis to participate in “The frog dance”. The top on the ridicule list. (Can’t believe he did it).

Veronica adores these traditions! She might be living abroad but boy is she Swedish at heart.

FYI just google Sweden, frog dance and you’ll get the gist of it.

IMG_5640.jpeg

Santa was generous this year, 5 gifts! (I must have been especially good.)

IMG_5645.JPG

What’s more fun then opening gifts?

IMG_5642.JPG

A new leash, a soft toy, a squeaky toy, treats and a bandana. I’m one lucky Boxer girl!

IMG_5644.JPG

I love my gifts. And don’t touch them!

IMG_5787

It’s been a wonderful holiday and a fun year. To all of my readers, thank you for following my stories.

Veronica and I wish you a very Happy New Year.

The Boxer Primadonna

moi_ayko1_fb

Remember Celine? (Celine Bissat) The Photographer Magician? The one that makes all dogs, cats and horses look beautiful. I was her Star in a memorable, amazing Photo Shoot. (See: The Photo Shoot)

(FYI I’m beautiful, even without Celine’s magic.)

Veronica finally realised the obvious; we had to recreate the moment! Celine was thrilled (I might not actually have heard that, but it goes without saying, it’s me, Felicia)

PetBook_Felicia_030 2

This time we opted for an “Autumn Atmosphere” or “The Boxer Fall Collection”. I find this theme particularly aesthetic.

These colors, and my brindle coat! Gorgeous!! And what’s more, NC was part of my entourage for todays event.

This is my most flattering angle. Head slightly turned to the right, a concerned but relaxed look.

PetBook_Felicia_005 2

Please admire the pose, the magnificent, dignified attitude.

And now, the performance: “The Boxer and Autumn Leaves Dance”

PetBook_Felicia_045

A “Pas de Deux”, starring Boxer Felicia von der Andreashöhe and Wild Autumn Leaves. Imagine some music: off the top of my head, “The Nutcracker”, by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.

As a matter of fact I suggest you immediately put it on. What? Don’t have it? Listen on YouTube!!

PetBook_Felicia_050.jpg

“Cabriole”. Wow, I mean, Wow!

You don’t care for classical music? No excuse!! There’s a jazzy version by Duke Ellington. C’mon hop hop, a little music now…

PetBook_Felicia_047.jpg

“Arabesque a la Felicia”. The difficulty is to keep the body moving in just the right direction adapting to the flying leaves.

PetBook_Felicia_061.jpg

“Pirouette”.

A painter should have portrayed me today.

This painting could be on display, in a museum.” The Louvre” for example, I heard that’s a famous joint. “Felicia von Der Andreashöhe, autumn atmosphere”

People from all over the world would gather in admiration. Then it would be sold at a big auction house!

PetBook_Felicia_070.jpg

“Tour en l’air”. Take a moment, look closely at these pics, admire the movements, the powerful muscles.

What now? Ok, Ok, AND the talent of the Photographer.

PetBook_Felicia_077.jpg

As you might have noticed all through my stories, I’m great at posing and performing in front of a camera!

Veronica even says that’s my strongest attribute.

What can I say, it all comes very naturally to me. (And don’t you listen to Veronica pretending it’s because “I’m full of myself” and “a little narcissistic”).

PetBook_Felicia_093

“Tour Jeté”. Even my flying ear and tail ads a nice touch to this this pic.

PetBook_Felicia_095.jpg

I think I need a bigger entourage! And probably a bunch of groupies.

And why haven’t these publicity fellows contacted me yet? Don’t they see what a great asset I would be?

PetBook_Felicia_104.jpg

See that muscly chest. I might have short legs but focus on my torso. This is why I’m such a wonderful sprinter.

I’m not much for that long running stuff Indya’s into. She’s always bragging and showing off her supposedly long elegant legs.

What do I care, I have big muscles (even Dr L says so)

PetBook_Felicia_140.jpg

This is a very embarrassing pic, I look so goofy. NC chose it “She’s so cute”…pathetic is more like it.

Don’t EVER show that one to Indya!! I’ll never hear the end of it. And OMG not to any of the guys, as a matter of fact let’s just keep that pic strictly private!

Or even better, destroy it!

PetBook_Felicia_113

This one was Veronica’s choice. Really?

PetBook_Felicia_255

Did you enjoy our “Pas de Deux”? Yes I agree with you, great performance. (Yeah, yeah, I know, and talented Photographer).

Here I’m resting, keeping in mind my good angle.

PetBook_Felicia_166

NC had brought a few balloons so we fooled around together with those. Come to think of it, I could be a sporting model, just look at my legs!!

“Join Boxer Felicia at the football match”, or “Don’t miss the latest baseball game, Boxer Felicia will be there”

PetBook_Felicia_227

Graceful Jump

PetBook_Felicia_229.jpg

“The powerful Boxer on a sprint”. I really need to send these pics to “Orijen” food. “Become Powerful like Boxer Felicia, Eat Orijen”

PetBook_Felicia_238.jpg

From graceful pose, elegant jumps to powerful “Dog Parkour” attitude. Even with my tongue hanging I manage to look great!

PetBook_Felicia_274.jpg

Here again, goofy face. You have to know I did this on purpose. To show everyone I have a great sense of humour.

PetBook_Felicia_278.jpg

A few pics with my NC. I can’t get enough of snuggly kisses and hugs.

PetBook_Felicia_297.jpg

Dog Parkour pose. I find him very handsome. Don’t you all agree with me?

PetBook_Felicia_031

If I’m a star, where’s my fan club? My admirers? Publicity offers? The artists?

Oh but of course! I need an agent. (Veronica is useless). It’s a known fact that all stars have one!

I could be famous, I could be RICH! I could live in a mansion…oh yeah! “Boxer Felicia elegantly descending the steps of her Beverly Hills Property”

That could totally be me!

IMG_4286.jpeg

Thank you Celine for once again performing the magic, by making my Felicia look her best in these amazing autumn colours. The Photos are beautiful and Felicia had the time of her life.

Celine not only takes beautiful pics, she cares for the dogs. She establishes a personal contact and bond with each one of them. Felicia adores her.

I can highly recommend this wonderful animal photographer:

The Ophthalmologist

IMG_4415.jpeg

Veronica is calling, but I’m feigning deafness. Today is the appointment with the Eye specialist, the “Ophthalmologist”, remember my eye “problem”?  (See “The New Doctor”)

I know I said I was “The Strong stoic Boxer”. But I’ve heard that notion is overrated and very last season. The new black is: “The worried, concerned Boxer”.  I’m very trendy so that’s what I’m going for.

At the end of the day it’s MY eye we’re talking about, perhaps I want to keep it this way! Perhaps I want to live with a “Corneal Ulcer”. I might just want that.

IMG_4657.jpeg

But in my world, or rather Veronica’s world, my opinion does not count.

See the sign? Says it all!!

I’ve said this before; Veronica is kind of, well, very bossy, it’s a family thing. Dennis is REALLY with me on this one. (Probably the concerned friend who gave her the sign too)

IMG_4416.jpeg

In the waiting room I switch to the “Zen attitude”. I don’t want the little Cocker spaniel in the corner to think I’m a wimp.

(FYI I’m not, there is a big difference between “worried” and wimp!)

IMG_4417.jpeg

The consultation room is full of weird tools, that I choose not to look at. I concentrate on the door through which I know the “Ophthalmologist” is coming.

IMG_4418.jpeg

Dennis is here too, he is telling me all will be fine. (Easy for him to say, it’s not his eye we’re talking about!)

IMG_4420.jpeg

Here she is, Dr B, she looks very nice indeed. She’s calm, smiling and very friendly. I can see Veronica likes her a lot.

(Incidentally she’d better be calm, it’s eyes we’re talking about, not a leg…)

IMG_4419.jpeg

She has this weird tool that she uses to look in my eyes, I don’t mind. Now, see that cooperative Boxer? This is easy, I can do that.”Felicia the confident and cooperative Boxer”.

Dr B tells Veronica she will need to clean out my eye and scratch at the surface,  put in a protection lens so my eye can heal properly.

What??? INSIDE MY EYE??? Seriously? I don’t agree…at all!  No, no, no! Absolutely NOT!

IMG_4619.jpeg

Dennis tells me not to stress “Dr B will give you a shot and you’ll sleep thought the whole procedure”. Sleep? I don’t know about that? Sounds scary, now I have NO control on what’s going on.

Hmmm, come think of it…I will probably get a patch, like a pirate? Oh that would be super cool!!

“Felicia the Boxer pirate”, make way for the “Badass Boxer Pirate”…I’ll walk down our street and show that “Full of himself Jack Russel” what a Badass I am..ha!

IMG_2850.jpeg

…boy my head is heavy…and ohhhh my eyes are closing….”Felicia, the brave Boxer Pirate is falling asleep”….

IMG_4422.JPG

…until I wake up.

What the heck is around my head???? What? Where is my pirate patch? I had it all figured out and now I wake up like this…OMG! This is horrible, how embarrassing!

“Felicia, the cone is to protect your eye from scratching and hurting”, “You’ll only wear it for 7 or 8 days”.

IMG_4424.jpeg

Only? More then a whole week She’s got to be kidding!! This is outrageous!

I refuse to stay here, in the front yard where everybody can see me. All by passers, especially the little “Full of himself Jack Russel” for one.

He’ll have a field day…

IMG_4423.jpeg

In the back yard at least only the stupid “Strutting Pigeon” is around. I feel deeply depressed and misunderstood.

Yeah, Veronica should wear one of these just to see how it feels.

IMG_4478.JPG

Finally, after a very difficult week. (Yes It was very hard) I’m freed of my torture cone. Veronica’s calling “As you have been such a good girl I have a surprise for you”

A surprise? WHERE?

IMG_4475.jpeg

It’s a package, a big box, what can that be? Elk skin bones? Toys?

IMG_4476.jpeg

It’s my very own Harry Barker pad! Until now I was using Lego’s and frankly, I deserve my own, what with this whole eye ordeal.

I love it! Perfect colouring for my beautiful brindle coat. “Felicia the beautiful, brave stoic Boxer on her new mat” (Yes, I was very brave).

Medical issues sure pay off. Bring on more I say.

IMG_4664.JPG

And just so you know; I could totally be a “Badass Boxer Pirate”!

My thanks go to Dr Stéphanie Borer for her medical skills and wonderful patience with my, not so cooperative, Felicia
