The New Doctor

IMG_3431.jpg

I am a little worried and upset. Today I have an appointment with the new Dr. Yeah that’s it: NEW! My favourite Dr. EVER has abandoned me!

He’s leaving for A WHOLE YEAR! Apparently there is this one famous professor in a place called Davis, with whom he wants to study.

IMG_3710.jpg

Without fair warning, he broke the news during my June appointment. The nerve of him! So suddenly, he’s not good enough? He has to specialise?

PLEASE, how much does he actually have to learn? What were all those University studies for?  Plus he already spent a year with another professor in California. Wasn’t that enough?

No, no, no. I know what’s going on here, he just want’s some fun time with his family, and his dog. Yep even the dog is leaving.

IMG_9605.jpg

He introduced us to his replacement, Dr. S. “She’s very nice and will take great care of you,” so he says. (Easy for him to say, he’ll be gone. And define “nice”!)

She looks super young, is she actually a real Doctor? With a proper diploma? She’s  pretty and all, but looks are one thing, knowledge is another. Apples and oranges here.

As I am a good dog, and very sweet, I will give her the benefit of the doubt and make my own conclusions in due time! (Like I have a choice here?!).

IMG_3721.jpg

So here we are, on our way to my first appointment with this Dr. S. I am going to compare everything! YES EVERYTHING! Every little detail will be scrutinised!

IMG_3713.jpg

Waiting room, the same. I stay alert to pick up any clue as to how the atmosphere is, now that he’s gone.

At the moment no change.

IMG_3712.jpg

The mandatory weighing (same as before). I’m still between 29kg and 30kg. No, I’m not fat. I’m perfect for my 56 cm hight. (We already established that).

I have big muscles, even Dr. L says so.

IMG_3711

Time to go into the consultation room. Looks the same to me, most importantly: the candy jar is in place. I love to come here. Well I love Dr L. (sigh)

IMG_3714.jpg

What’s that I hear now? A feminine voice, yeah, that’s her, the Dr. S is arriving.

IMG_3715.jpg

She sits down on the floor to greet me. Well now that’s nice, I like that. She talks sweetly, telling me I am very good and beautiful dog, (duh, yeah!) and that she will examine me and give me a shot.

Amazingly enough I don’t mind shots, see, at exact the same moment I get a candy.

IMG_3716.jpg

She feels my heart, my stomach, pretty much the same routine as before, I get my shot, my candy. So far nothing to complain about.

IMG_3718.jpg

That’s when things get out of control. “I think there is a little problem with Felicia’s eye”. What’s that now?  What does she mean by “problem”?

First of all I have no problem! Ok it feels a little weird but that’s surely temporary because of the weather or something, pollen or something.

It’s a known fact that pollen can affect the eyes.

IMG_3720 2

But Dr. S is very thorough and goes on and on looking. She thinks I have something called a “Corneal Ulcer”.

Typical, the moment Dr. L abandons me I have a problem. Dr S tells Veronica not to worry, she will send us to an “Ophthamologist”.

“Ophthamologist”???  And WTF is “Corneal Ulcer”? Explain yourself!

IMG_4427.JPG

Dr. S tells me it’s a little injury to my eye, and I will see an eye specialist, that she is very nice and will heal my eye in no time.

Even though I’m not happy about my so called “problem”…

IMG_3719

…I grudgingly have to admit this new, young, Dr. knows her business, and she’s cute and she has a killer smile.

I forgive you Dr. L, but you better be back in due time!! (Before I break a leg or something).

IMG_2733.jpg

Meanwhile I’m super stressed about this whole “Ophthalmologist” business. She’s going to look me in the eye and perhaps perform a “little intervention”.

You hear that guys? An intervention!! Yeck, I’m so not looking forward to that!  But I’ll try to be brave…hm…

“Felicia the brave, strong, stoic Boxer in the face of medical surgery”. Sounds very cool!

(I know, I’m stretching reality a bit, but shhh don’t tell anyone).

Mantrailing

IMG_1868.jpg

I have something very important to say: Mantrailing! It’s the coolest thing ever, best activity for a dog like me. And I’m going to be a champion.

Oh, you don’t know what I’m talking about? PLEASE, it’s time for you discover the magic and fun of Mantrailing.

IMG_1109.jpg

This is Henny Martinoni. He’s a dog guru. He’s the best at everything : clicker, obedience, search, mantrailing  etc…name it, he does it.

All dogs love him!

IMG_3704.jpg

These are his two champion dogs.

Naja, a very talented Malinois, she can do just about anything, she’s a real pro, a wonderful dog.

Bonnie is a Springer spaniel and full of pep and life. She’s a specialist in finding bedbugs among other stuff. (I know, weird).

IMG_3707.jpg

Bonnie at work. Can’t believe she can find such tiny little beasts. Impressive! FYI, no way will I ever do that job, I mean we’re talking about bugs here…

(Incidentally Veronica would never allow such an activity for me, it’s the insect thing.)

IMG_3709.jpg

Team Martinoni. Two happy working dogs.

IMG_4894.jpg

Henny and I go way back. When I was a pup Veronica took clicker lessons with him, tackling a few minor issues not worth mentioning here.

He’s MC’s friend, it was during a joint training session with Indya (Indya, my BFF) that we first met. Both Indya and I think he’s super cool.

He only works with Positive reinforcement, and he knows Eva; exactly, my Eva. (Eva Bodfäldt)

IMG_2048

Here we are, the Corinne gang or, as I like to call us, “The pro dogs” waiting patiently for Henny and the fun to start.

You might notice I’m not among them, that’s just because I prefer to keep a slight distance from my fellow “Pro dog” members. I’m just more comfortable this way.

IMG_0212.jpg

I think it’s Veronica’s fault, she’s Swedish, and it’s a known fact that Swedes are somewhat cold and avoid crowds.

During summers they like to live isolated in small, simple cabins. I mean just look at this Bergman fellow, those movies aren’t real fun.

Veronica can spend hours all alone in nature. What can I say; she’s Swedish!

IMG_0989.jpg

Of course little Leon is here. You’ll be happy to know we’ve reached an understanding. The “Let’s ignore each other” agreement.

I still find him irritating at times, but I have more important fish to fry. There’s a bunch of full-of-themselves newcomers that I find…well this is probably not the time or place…

Let’s move on.

IMG_1669

Beatrice and Mylo. I love Mylo!! He’s so cool, we hang out on Thursdays at big dog training. Beatrice always has a nice word for me. (Yeah, she has my back)

IMG_2047

Henny gives us a long explanation with complete instructions. The exercise consists of finding a hidden person, following said person’s scent.

IMG_0893.jpg

Let’s try this. Veronica receives a long tether that she attaches to my harness.

IMG_1121.jpg

My job is to find Corinne, first she shows me delicious treats. “When you find me, this is what you’ll receive”… mmmmm…chicken…yummy!

IMG_1123.jpg

Off she goes to hide, so far away I can’t even see where she is.

IMG_1118.jpg

After what seems like an eternity, I have to pick up her scent on the cloth.

IMG_0984.jpg

I follow the scent in the grass, this is easy!

IMG_1664.jpg

Further and further away until…Yes, I find Corinne hidden. Piece of cake! Veronica is very proud. She kept on saying:

“Wow, she’s so focused”. Like that’s some major achievement! You’ll be glad to know that I can be VERY focused…when I want to!

IMG_1665.jpg

All dogs are happy and have fun searching for the missing person. June with Corinne,

IMG_1667.jpg

Mylo with Beatrice

IMG_1666.jpg

and even little Ourai with Philippe, and he’s just a pup.

IMG_2049.jpg

To round up a perfect day, Bonnie showed us what a real search dog champion can achieve.

Henny asks someone to put a small coin on the ground. Bonnie sets off, happy to demonstrate her talent…

IMG_2050.jpg

…by rapidly finding the tiny coin on the ground. Can you believe that?? We were all very impressed, but then it’s normal, its Henny’s dog

IMG_0981 3.jpg

I love Henny, he’s the best. He told me I have great potentional!! You heard that? Henny Martinoni, himself, thinks I HAVE GREAT POTENTIAL!!

In other words I’m going to be a Mantrailing Champion!!

Thank you Henny, for your help, your precious advice with my Felicia through the years. Thank you for being a wonderful mentor at all times.

The Swedish Guests

IMG_1421.jpg

This morning Little E left and already the New Guys are arriving. They’re from Stockholm and I suspect they’re not really dog people!

I happen to know this because Veronica gave me “THE TALK”, the “leave the guests alone” talk.

They’re Veronica’s friends and she really likes them a lot, but c’mon, what’s with the NO DOG policy? What’s wrong with them?

IMG_2958.jpg

The guests turn out to be friendly and even smile at me, see, not totally dog unfriendly after all. The atmosphere is lovely and I hang around at a respectful distance.

I’m half asleep in the warm evening when my mind is snatched back to reality as I overhear something about a “day trip”. What is that now? Day trip?

Does that include me? I better play this one right. I’m going to be the perfect, discreet, calm Boxer girl!

IMG_2951

The next day my resolution is seriously challenged. They go shopping and cram the bags next to me… can you believe that? The nerve of them!

Supposedly the guests need to sit comfortably. Yeah, yeah, don’t mind the Boxer girl in back.

I take a deep, very deep, breath, stay zen and think “day trip”, “day trip” the “day trip”…

IMG_2952.jpg

My efforts pay off! Day trip it is.

First stop is a small town in the middle of the wine country, by the lake. The Swedish Guests are wine lovers. A tasting is planned later on. Dennis is the guide today.

Remember the Wine tasting story? If so you know Veronica is not really into that stuff.

IMG_2558.jpg

The lake shore is beautiful, you can see the alps. I do think we live in a beautiful country, even if we don’t have big amazing forests, like in Sweden.

IMG_2960.jpg

We meet this very nice lady who tells me I’m beautiful. Well, we all know that! But it doesn’t hurt to mention it aloud every once and a while.

(Especially in front of The Swedish Guests!)

IMG_2959.jpg

I want to go into the water but the nosey swans don’t let me. Guys, relax. I’ll stay on the high wall, not because I’m scared but I like the view here better.

IMG_2953.jpg

The water is warm, unfortunately I’m not allowed off the leash. Just because of some stupid town rule.

“No, Felicia, no dogs can run free here”, yeah, yeah whatever.

IMG_2632 2.jpg

Time for a picnic in the shade and to my utter surprise Veronica shares her food!! Yes Veronica, not Dennis!!

FYI, I wear Lego’s collar because my official tax medal is attached to it. Where I live, dogs are supposed to wear it at all times. (Everybody knows what a believer in rules Veronica is, so there you go).

Incidentally it has her phone number on it in case I run away. I know, ridiculous, like I would do that…also, can I get my own identity collar please?

IMG_2956.jpg

Time for the Wine tasting event. Amazingly enough dogs are welcome! I’m used to accompany Veronica in stores and so but a wine tasting tavern…I’m thrilled.

I settle down and relax. I want to show everybody what an amazing dog I am.

IMG_2962.JPG

As expected Veronica is not tasting any wine. She even brought along her flask…with tea! The Swedish Guests on the other hand are very happy.

IMG_2625.jpg

To round up the day, we visit a few vineyards. I gladly pose, well yes, a picture of just a bunch of grapes? How boring is that!

IMG_2957 2.jpg

The last day, to my astonishment, The Swedish Guests join us for a long, fun walk into the woods.

See, they’re warming up to me, I can feel it.

IMG_3359.jpg

The Swedish Guests left this morning, the house is empty and calm. They were really quite charming, come to think of it. So what if I’m not allowed up on their lap. To each their own.

Did I actually say that? Wow, I’m so reasonable, what’s going on? Is this what they call “being mature”?

Little E and Sister

IMG_2652

I’m thrilled! Little E, her Mom and the new sister, Baby F, have arrived. Yep, that’s right, another Baby!

Apparently one wasn’t enough!

I have a theory about that; It’s because of Baby L: Jealousy! Little E’s parents were jealous and wanted their own little Baby, to be cool, get presents and to be the centre of attention.

Not that I find Babies particularly cool, but I hear that’s the general opinion.

Whatever. Most importantly, Little E has arrived!

IMG_2775

Here again we have the proof that Babies make people act crazy.

The best example is Veronica. She’s all “Ohhhh so cute” and “I want to hold her”. Talking to Baby F in a silly, high pitched, unnatural voice, accompanied by all sorts of weird squeaks.

P L E A S E, show some decency, and start acting your age! Gee, pathetic!

IMG_2645 2

Little E, on the other hand, is graceful and adorable with her sister. Making funny faces to entertain her, looking after her with love.

Me? ehh, hmm, another Baby? Not really my cup of tea. I mean, I don’t mind Babies per se, I’m used to them now, what with Baby L around all the time.

IMG_2649.jpg

I just find them boring.

The whole family adores Baby F. They act nearly as silly as Veronica with all those weird, funny sqeaky noises.

IMG_2475 2.jpg

Even Baby L is fascinated. She wants to pat her, kiss her and look at her ALL the time. Actually that’s pretty adorable.

IMG_2656.jpg

Little E makes a point of showing her who’s the Boss here, who’s in charge. With a determined “I’M THE BIG SISTER”, attitude.

A lot of children in the house…what is that they say? “Three is a crowd”….

IMG_2646.jpg

Luckily most days it’s just Little E and I spending time together (yeah leave that Baby to the squeaking lot).

Our program: play fun games and share food with the Boxer BFF; Felicia!

Ah, you want to hear about the Baby? Oh well, I can do that, here it goes: Eat, sleep, laugh, sleep, eat, smile, eat…voila! Happy?

IMG_2561 2

Back to ME and Little E, the interesting stuff!

Every morning she keeps me company while waiting for my breakfast. She totally gets what it means to be a hungry Boxer girl.

IMG_2657.jpg

Therefore she gives me treats to fill my empty stomach.

IMG_2563.jpg

We team up in Veronica’s room expectantly, waiting for the fun to start. We both agree that it takes WAY TOO LONG for her to get dressed and ready.

IMG_2782.jpg

I don’t understand why people, that is Veronica, needs so much time? I think it has to do with her wardrobe. You see she has this walk in closet and spends a LONG TIME  choosing what to wear.

(Incidentally her clothes all look alike, the same boring neutral colours.)

HELLOOOO; It’s just CLOTHES, not like a major life changing decision. What’s her problem? Honestly, she needs help!

IMG_2584.jpg

Little E got this gorgeous Fairy outfit, wings and all. We played “The Little Fairy and her horse” (me being the horse) for long hours.

Personally, I did not understand much of that game, only the part that goes: “The Fairy gives her horse loads of treats”.

IMG_2928

We had many “try to catch the Bubbles” games…

IMG_2926

Until sadly the bottle was empty.

IMG_2647.jpg

And we got really bored. Dennis came to the rescue. I’ve said this before, Dennis is a guarantee for fun, except when he’s working.

Then frankly he’s the boring one. Unlike Veronica, he can actually focus. And does not get distracted, EVER.

Veronica on the other hand…well let’s just say the I suspect a major ADD problem.

IMG_2924

Dennis fetched us some balloons and we started the “Felicia football game”

IMG_2925

I’m a champion!

I still don’t understand why a circus hasn’t hired me. Yes, I coud be a star what with the soap bubbles and the Balloons.

“Felicia, the amazing Boxer Juggler”, that sounds cool!

IMG_2648.jpg

Let’s not forget our walks. See how behaved I am? Not pulling? To be truthful, Veronica is close by, in case we encounter an uneducated, provocative dog.

Me? You can’t expect a Boxer girl to ignore an enemy. I have to protect the little Fairy…

IMG_2650.jpg

Then without any warning, the fun is over, Little E has to leave. Oh, oh, and Baby F and their Mom, LS.

I hate departures, they make me nervous. We both put up a brave face, Little E pretending to brush her teeth, me pretending to survey my neighbour Polka.

Both of us very sad.

IMG_2633.jpg

Little E hugs and kisses me goodbye and suddenly she’s gone.

IMG_2192.jpg

Back to the quiet house and our routine…so I thought…only a few short hours later more guests arrived, from Sweden.

What do I care, they’re probably boring, I’ll just pout here in my chair and dream about Little E.

The Time Out

IMG_2099

I need a Time Out! This summer has been just crazy! Veronica pretends she doesn’t need one. I think it’s because she believes it will make her appear weak. Pathetic!

I say, RELAX, ZEN, BREATHE. (she should take a leaf out of my book)

Remember me telling you about “boring vacations”? Believe me, I could do with a bit of boring now. A few long, uneventful days. Bring them on!

IMG_2130.JPG

There’s just been so much stuff going on all the time, ALL THE TIME!

Pool parties. See NC trying to make me swim (again). Indya, who  hates swimming even more then me, stays safely out of the way. (Who’s a wimp now!)

IMG_9708.jpg

Dinners with family and friends. (Incidentally you can see who’s the star in this family…)

IMG_2085.jpg

That will be Baby L, the star. She has charmed us all. Yes she’s adorable, I think so too but does she need to be over here all the time???

Veronica has been baby sitting…a lot…there was even a sleepover.

Fun fact: Veronica had told her children many, MANY times over: “I will NOT take care of any grandchildren. I had enough with you four”… yeah, that went well…pfff no willpower at all.

IMG_2110.jpg

When Baby L’s around I feel responsible for her safety.

Veronica lets her nap in the stroller! Can you believe that? Totally irresponsible! I mean anything can happen. What if a bird steals her? The strutting pigeon for one.

I had to keep guard, at least one of us has her priorities right.

IMG_2058.JPG

I have news for you: baby sitting is EXHAUSTING!

Can’t believe Veronica had four children running around here, what was she thinking? Thank god, she didn’t go for four dogs.

(Yes, I like to be the sole Boxer in this house! I want to be the star)

IMG_2173 2.jpg

Dennis has been working or cooking all the time. This is actually a bone he bought for me!

Some people just know a Boxer girl’s secret dream.

IMG_2174

You see why I need some well deserved, boring, simple no eventful days, what with all this stuff going on.

IMG_9036

Now, finally, Veronica and I have some time, just the two of us.

IMG_2111.jpg

Agility “Slow mode”, because of the heat.

IMG_2112.JPG

Morning workout in the garden. I’ve been improving my “clicker/target” training. Right, left and forward. I’m a pro.

Veronica is a big “Clicker” advocate, I have learned most of my skills that way.

IMG_2114.jpg

Long, fun evening walks. With some Dog Parkour exercises. Unfortunately still no Boars in view.

I’m starting to doubt this whole “I’ve seen a Boar” story. Perhaps this is just one of these unfounded boasts? Like people talking about that “huge fish they caught”.

Bet you Veronica and Lego just saw a rabbit!

IMG_2097.jpg

Meditating poolside. Restoring my soul and finding inner peace of mind.

IMG_2072.jpg

Thing is, Little E is coming next week. Apparently there is a new Baby sister!! Like one isn’t enough?

Don’t get me wrong, I love Little E, but another one? Really?

I’ll think about that tomorrow. Right now I’m enjoying the warm summer evening with Veronica.

Boxer Yin and Yang: Par two

IMG_1389

“Boxers are a handful”, remember? That’s Veronica opinion. My deepest sense of honesty forces me to partially agree with her.

After Boxer Yin and Yang: Par One, today I will share a few, let’s say, “different” aspects of a Boxer’s personality: Part Two: Yang

IMG_1448 2.jpg

Boxers are guard dogs. I even have a special sign on our gate. Can you see the attentive Boxer in the corner?

That’s me! Always ready to defend my territory from suspicious looking creatures.

IMG_1449.jpg

When someone is walking up our street I get ready to leap into action with a dissuasive attitude. It might be that insufferable little “Full of himself Jack Russell”.

Veronica has this STUPID rule, I’m ONLY allowed to bark twice. Can you believe that? (Supposedly it disturbs the neighbourhood, more like disturbs her!!)

I’ve said this before: she has no idea what’s at stake here!! Our security…and my pride.

IMG_1622.jpg

There’s even an official letter, that Veronica received, attesting to my amazing guard aptitudes, from our Electrical company,

It’s for a new installation. See that Boxer in the pic? Felicia von der Andreashöhe the badass guard dog!

I saw a suspicious looking man taking pictures of OUR house!! The nerve of him!!  (Ok I had no idea he was there for official reasons. It could have been burglers.)

IMG_1529

Boxers can get a little…overenthusiastic… Especially when loved ones come home. Beware of excessive jumping!

IMG_1519.jpg

Boxers don’t understand their strength. Happy Boxers are just so VERY, VERY happy!

IMG_7845

Boxers are creative and inventive in their games. Some optimistic owners might think “Oh, it’ll pass, she’s just a pup”

I’ve got news for you: IT NEVER GOES AWAY!! Boxers never “Grow out” of ANYTHING!! (see The Unfortunate Incident(s)  and The Dog Bed Confession)

IMG_1418.jpg

Boxers can suddenly leap out unexpectedly, without any warning, taking the leash holder totally by surprise.

IMG_0969.jpg

There might be a fly, a bird, an annoying dog…well just about anything. And, again, THEY NEVER GROW OUT OF IT!

Veronica’s very well educated first Boxer, Ficelle age 9, nearly made her fall when trying to catch a flying leaf.

Remember, Boxers are very powerful and muscular dogs.

IMG_1545 2.jpg

If the word “comfort” had not existed, a Boxer would have invented it. Boxers need very soft, comfortable beds.

I have tested quite a few, I’m a Cloud7 fan.

IMG_1451.jpg

Usually, with time, the Boxer finds ways to upgrade sleeping arrangements.

IMG_8621.jpg

To the ultimate nirvana: the bed.

You might think “How is this possible”? Trust me, Boxers always know how to get just what they want.

IMG_1425

Boxers don’t like the heat. Because of our flat noses we suffer and need to spend the day in the coolest place possible.

IMG_1455.jpg

Unfortunately Boxers sometimes have health problems. Like little sweet Yuna, she had to leave for fairyland at only four years old. She was MC’s dog.

IMG_1457.jpg

Boxers should not be left alone for long hours. They get depressed and sometimes stress. I hate it when I’m alone at home.

Boxers need to be with their family.

IMG_4102

Boxers are working dogs and obey really well…until they don’t. You can never count on a Boxer actually doing what’s asked for.

There could be more interesting venues, and they become suddenly very deaf.

IMG_1533.jpg

Boxers easily get distracted when presumedly in “working mode”. A newcomer, a noise or by passer and all thoughts of where they are and what they’re supposed to do is forgotten.

There is just so much interesting stuff going on all over the place.

IMG_1611.jpg

Then there is, of course, the possibility that the Boxer doesn’t feel like working…at all!

IMG_1589.jpg

Boxers can sometimes be a little “grumpy” with other dogs.

Rightfully so! You should  see some of these guys, so full of themselves with their superior looks. “Look at me, little flat-nose-chubby-one; I’m slender, I have a long gracious nose”

I just have to give them a piece of my mind.

img_0997

Obviously “giving them a piece of my mind” is not a Veronica approved attitude. Of course she had to blab to Eva…pffff  (Eva Bodfäldt)

After their cosy little talk, there were some changes made. Veronica now distracts me, during dog encounters, with manipulative talk, and yummy chicken…

“Look Felicia at that dog, wow, amazing ears, and look at that tail. He’s very handsome”

img_0972

During our lessons I’m positioned behind Veronica, getting treats when I’m calm.

Eva, a word: The chicken, the treats, good, the manipulative talk…eh… I can pass. AND I’m nearly always a good girl now. (Good enough anyway).

img_0613

Eva says “To own a Boxer you need to have a great sense of humour”. I think that’s the secret of being the perfect Boxer owner.

IMG_0554

Regardless of what I do, or do not do. Veronica loves me just the way I am.

Well yes, I’m a Boxer!

Authors note:

There have been 11 Boxers in the family, Felicia is my number four. Boxers are intensive, funny, exhausting and by no account boring. There’s never a dull moment with a Boxer in the house.

My thanks go to all my dog specialists: My sister SPS, Eva Bodfäldt, Corinne Chuit, and Yvonne, a Boxer expert, and trainer who has owned 11 Boxers herself.

To you all, thanks for helping me become a good enough Boxer owner.

Boxer Yin and Yang: Part One

IMG_1390.jpg

Veronica loves me. I mean, what’s not to love? I’m gorgeous, funny, inventive and most importantly: I’m a Boxer!

“Boxers are a handful”, so Veronica says. That’s just pure nonsense. If you have read my stories you already know what a delightful dog I am.

Boxers are just…let’s say, Yin and Yang.

Today we’ll focus on the Yin!

IMG_9457.jpg

Boxers love to play…all the time…and I mean, ALL THE TIME! (BTW: please admire that elegant jump, to catch the bubble?)

IMG_0666

Boxers can play with just about anything. No need for special toys. We don’t even require a companion. We can have fun all by ourselves for a long, very long time.

IMG_9608.jpg

Boxers are playful all their life. My Lego, aged 11, still jumping in the waves.

IMG_0669 2.jpgBoxers stay young at heart. Veronica likes to say: “Having a Boxer is like having a three year old…that’s it”.

In other words; a Boxer will never evolve, reach maturity or grow into “a slightly boring, old and wise dog”.

IMG_8007

Boxers are affectionate with family and friends.

IMG_8895 2

Very affectionate

PHOTO-2015-05-15-10-49-26.jpg

Very, very affectionate…(even when someone is not really in the mood and is trying to nap.)

IMG_1288.jpg

Overwhelmingly affectionate. Here I am with my sister Flay and Andy. We both felt he absolutely needed a huge hug and a few kisses too.

IMG_6799.jpg

Boxers sleep a lot. And when I say a lot, it is A LOT!!! Early nights…

IMG_8942.jpg

…late mornings.

IMG_1257.jpg

and many, MANY, naps.

IMG_7485

Of course we sleep, we live intensely. When active, we’re VERY ACTIVE. Boxers are powerful and muscular dogs, it’s a known fact that all athletes need their rest.

(Side note; I have very large muscles, even Dr L says so.)

IMG_1277.jpg

Boxers know how to  express their most inner feelings or mood. One simple look and you know exactly what’s going on:

“Where the heck is my food, I want it NOW!”

IMG_6746.jpg

“I feel a little depressed today, I think I need some treats, or at least a big hug. A nap on the sofa, might highly improve my emotional state.”

IMG_0815.jpg

“Love me”

Boxers want EVERYBODY to love them, even those who prefer cats or cows. Just the thought of someone not loving us seems preposterous.

IMG_9935

“You’ve got to be kidding”. (Sometimes Veronica has the most ridiculous ideas, like a dog swim)

IMG_5295

“I’m innocent, I don’t know what you’re talking about” (That look has come in handy more then once).

IMG_1436.jpg

“Stop calling. I don’t want to go on any frigging walk, can’t you see I’m sleeping!”

In other words, you have a “talking” dog.

FullSizeRender

Boxers are great working dogs. They’re up for just about any activity. For instance Obedience.

img_0705

Agility, and many more.

Boxers love to preform as long as we get appropriate rewards, like succulent treats. (And don’t try to give us any of that boring dry stuff!)

IMG_0989.jpg

Or our favourite Tug of War game.

IMG_2111.jpg

Boxer’s are loyal dogs. Me, I’m the happiest when Veronica is around. Doesn’t matter what we’re doing as long as I’m with her. True love.

Unconditional love.

Next episode: Boxer Yang.

Lazy Summer Days

IMG_9620 3.jpg

You haven’t heard from us for a while, there are several reasons;

First of all Veronica went traveling to Sweden…without me…of course. That’s usually ok, I have fun at Uncle Bradley’s.

IMG_0061.JPG

Only  this time she kept on bragging about what a “wonderful trip” it had been. And “Felicia you would have loved those large forests”.

I find that a little insensitive. I get it, she had her fun, but does she need to go on and on about the “Wonderful dog friendly forests”. Helloooo, I’m not allowed to travel there.

Just zip it!

IMG_0495.JPG

As if the whole “Forest episode” wasn’t enough she hung out with other dogs, well this one dog, Hippie.

She’s a “Schapendoes” and apparently really sweet, nice and fun. “You’d love her Felicia”.

Bring it on, I say, take me to Stockholm and let me decide whether I find her interesting…or not!

IMG_8297

Now the Lazy summer days are here, that’s the second reason I’ve been very quiet on the story front.

Not much going on. Veronica reads and drinks, tea, then reads some more. Corinne is on vacation which means no Agility. It’s very hot and walks become difficult.

IMG_8200.jpg

Of course there is the endless “Come and swim” Felicia business, but I can handle that now.

No, I am NOT going swimming whatever you guys think.

IMG_0991.jpg

I go to my quiet spot, it’s cool and I can keep an eye on my territory, fulfilling my duty as a guard dog.

We have many intruders. Who? Off the top of my head: “The Strutting Pigeon” for one. You have no idea what an exhausting life I have.

Incidentally there’s much less talk of swimming when I’m here.

IMG_0812.jpg

I do kind of swim though, I mean look how far I’ve gone out. That’s good enough in my opinion. No need to overdo it, and it’s just as refreshing.

I’ve said this before, swimming is overrated! (BTW, I’m NOT a wimp!)

IMG_0708.jpg

We walk during the coolest hours. Don’t you just love sunflowers?

IMG_0992.jpg

Mostly, in the late evenings. I still haven’t met those Boars they were talking about. (Veronica has seen a few here).

We avoid the forests, they’re full of mosquitos. Dennis and I have put our Veto on those walks. Veronica doesn’t understand, probably because she’s Swedish, she’s mosquito resistant.

IMG_0793.jpg

Summer is the time for fun excursions, like a visit to Veronica’s sister, SPS, and the Cutie Pugs in their huge garden.

IMG_0998.jpg

They’re all very sad at the moment. Sweet Boxer Zarah had to leave for Fairyland. She’s probably hanging out with my Lego right now.

IMG_0791.jpg

I’m happy I could be a little ray of sunshine in the Cutie Pugs life under these circumstances. We had great fun though Rose is still a little shy.

IMG_0811.jpg

Yoda and I are total BFF’s. He’s always up for some cool game. Pugs are very funny dogs. We understand each other, it’s probably a nose thing.

IMG_9499.jpg

We have many Summer guests. GM came from Zürich with Erasme. I don’t know why, but he did not want to play with me. GM say’s it’s because he’s getting old.

I don’t know what she’s talking about, I find  him very handsome and fit. He was probably just having a bad hair day or something.

IMG_0996.JPG

I have to mention THE World Cup game: Sweden/Switzerland! OMG! What an ordeal!

See the family was deeply divided. Dennis (who want’s to integrate) and MBC (Portugal is out) were pro Switzerland. The others pro Sweden.

(FYI all these guys (apart from Dennis) are dual and even triple nationals. How their fan zone works is a mystery to me.)

Veronica, who doesn’t even like football, was forced to watch “Mamma, det är en familje stund” (Mamma, it’s family time) and she forced me. (Like I’m some kind of football nerd now..???)

IMG_1030.jpg

The actual watching mostly consisted of a lot of shouting, (that out of courtesy I will spare you from) not from the guys, but those girls can sure be loud. (Thank god the players couldn’t here them).

IMG_0637 2.jpg

See what my summer is like, thankfully the World Cup will soon be over, and what do I care anyway, that ball is not for me!

I’ll just relax here on the lawn until it’s time for my walk, perhaps we’ll meet a boar.

Felicia, The Model Boxer

PetBook_Chauvet_025_FB

I can be the perfect Boxer, yes I can. I know what you’re thinking. What about “The Unfortunate Incidents”?

I hear you, but those were minor isolated events. I will show you just what a model of self-restraint and obedience I am.

Veronica doesn’t underline it enough. Would it kill her to brag about my outstanding behaviour once or twice? No, it’s all about a few tiny misunderstandings, such as the cleaning mop. Honestly, very unfair.

I’ll let you judge for yourself.

IMG_8970

When Veronica opens the car I NEVER jump out. No, I know I have to wait until she gives me permission.

IMG_9500.jpg

During our walks I sit at her side, waiting for the signal “spring” (run), to take off and explore.

IMG_8348.jpg

I don’t chase the swans, Veronica has told me they’re beautiful and need to be respected.

This has nothing to do with the fact that they’re big birds, and they stare at me. I just like to obey, and admire them…at a distance.

img_9106

I’m the perfect travel companion, quietly lying on my blanket in the train, minding my own business…

IMG_9315.jpg

…or in the Bus. I’m not stressed by passengers all around, quite the contrary.

IMG_8889.JPG

Airports are the best, mainly because it means the loved one is coming home, usually Veronica. See how perfectly I’m waiting.

BTW she travels WAY too much!

Mostly to Stockholm, apparently there is always some “Wonderful Opera” she has to see. Do you know that on this last trip she went to the same performance twice!  Can you believe that?

Ridiculous, and Dennis is with me on that one.

img_3789

Look at that gorgeous Boxer dog in the restaurant, that’s Felicia von der Andreashöhe. Not bothering the waiters. Once Dennis even shared his taco with me.

He’s the best! (This particular taco experience occurred during Veronica’s last trip…I get the feeling she might have objected had she been around.)

We have our own little secrets.

IMG_2171

On a related subject, I never beg for food! Oh no, I just lie by Dennis’s side, (nothing to do with the Taco incident). Emphasis: no begging!

IMG_3945

I never pull on the leash! FYI, if I sometimes wear a harness it’s only because I have a very sensitive neck and I cough easily, not because I pull!

Veronica tells everyone I wear it “Just in case of an unexpected encounter” (Don’t know what she means by that?)

IMG_5555

Out shopping I wait patiently in the store. Even if that bed is very inviting and looks super comfy I stay put. (I should know, it’s SOCIETY bedding.)

IMG_5554

When Veronica tries on clothes I wait…and wait. We all know this can take quite some time.

IMG_1273.jpg

At Dr L’s office I lie on the table calm and zen. I don’t mind at all, I love Dr L, he’s sweet and gentle and gives me wonderful treats.

There are rumours circulating that he’s leaving for a year!! To California. Apparently there is some super Veterinarian Professor there he wants to study with. So suddenly he’s not good enough??

That better not be true. First I DON’T AGREE, secondly what if I get sick?? Has he given that a thought? We’re going there on Tuesday, I’ll give him a piece of my mind!!

IMG_7363.jpg

Veronica loves to take my picture. Duh, I’m gorgeous! So I sit perfectly still until she gets the ideal shot.

IMG_9317.JPG

Even in less comfortable situations. To tell the truth, I enjoy these photo sessions very much. I’m a star, also, I’m generously rewarded, needless to say.

It’s actually one of my best attributes, modelling. I’ve said this before people: here you have the perfect dog for any kind of publicity. Bring it on! I’m not picky.

IMG_0575

I never jump on house guests. Boxers do that sometimes, so I hear. I gently climb up (very different) to say hello, and only if the guest is a dog lover.

Speaking of which, this is Ann, Veronica’s Opera friend, the one with Felix the gorgeous big poodle.

PetBook_Chauvet_035_FB

So, what do you say? Perfect Boxer or what?? And I haven’t even shared all my obedience tricks. What’s that? If there’s another dog around?

Ok, listen guys, apples and oranges here. We are not talking about the eventuality of another dog in the vicinity! Totally out of context!! Focus please!

I’m the perfect Boxer! Basta!

The Unfortunate Incident(s)

IMG_8538

Sometimes in life things just happen. I’m often feel an inside pressure to divert myself with an inspiring activity. (Not Veronica approved)

I call them “The unfortunate incidents”

“Felicia, we go for long walks, do Agility, Obedience, and search games and you’re no longer a puppy. What’s wrong with you?”.

She doesn’t understand, this is all about creativity. I’m a performing artist, like Marina Abramovic. She should be happy to have such an interesting creative Boxergirl.

IMG_7624

We’ve covered the beds…at a length…

IMG_0153

And the Paperwork

img_2329

and Little E’s toys

IMG_4810

The eyeglasses: (Don’t worry, I never ate the glass, I’m not stupid!). This pair was, supposedly, Veronica’s favourite sunglasses.

“Felicia, do you realise these are Celine glasses?”.Who’s Celine? And what do I care. (Apparently a famous designer).

Who’s stupid enough to buy expensive sunglasses in the first place? Totally her fault!

IMG_8673.jpg

Honestly I did not know this was an eyeglass case. Looks just like a toy in my world,

IMG_6038

Ok, so this pair was kind of a mistake, I admit. Before judging you need to get the whole picture.

Veronica was away and ZC went jogging, without me! Can you believe that? WITHOUT ME! The glasses were just lying there on the table. Suddenly, they were on my bed and I was chewing them.

ZC should have taken me along and what’s more Veronica should not leave her stuff just negligently within easy reach!

IMG_8564.jpg

Here we have a little mixup. NC and MBC were living in the house and NC left his sun glasses on the table, next to a loaf of bread.

I was planning on taking the bread (nobody in their right mind leaves food next to a Boxer) but something went wrong and I ended up with the glasses, frankly no idea why?

NC was a little upset (Veronica was furious). Let’s look at the bright side, they had bread for lunch.

IMG_3829.jpg

Veronica loves opera. I don’t. I’m often left alone for long hours in the evening. I figured, if I get rid of the program she won’t go.

Big mistake! Not only did she go, but she gave me the “You’re an adult Boxer” speech.

IMG_8649.jpg

This was the best, la crème de la crème of paper. The towels from the kitchen.

BTW they just happen to fall on the floor. It was meant to be.

IMG_8653

This does not look like a soc!. Look how fluffy it is, just like a toy, easy to get confused. Anyway it didn’t even break,

Apparently those are Veronica’s favourite indoors socks (I did not know that).

IMG_8650.jpg

The string was a whole new experience. I managed to roll it all around the table and the chairs. (Before the local “guard” caught me)

Feeling stressed? I can recommend string fun (No need to go into Veronica’s reaction, let’s just say she needs to relax, perhaps try for a little string activity herself)

IMG_8567.jpg

First of all cleaning mops are super cool all dogs should have one. Secondly it’s totally Veronica and Dennis’s fault if I have access to them.

I don’t like to be left alone. I need entertainment. The “mop game” is the perfect balm for a distressed boxer girl.

IMG_8570.jpg

They never close the door to the laundry room. In my world that means “Felicia go and help yourself with whatever you like”

Turns out that’s a no. I have supposedly “ruined” quite a large number of mops. I say; close the door!

IMG_8565.jpg

The Christmas decorations was a joint venture. See Indya sneaking off, running away? What a cheat!

Very unfair and invariably I’m the one that gets the blame.

IMG_6797.jpg

Do you know about the crazy Swedish tradition of Easter feathers? No? I thought so. A bunch of sticks with coloured feathers on the top, I know, insane!!

I happen to like these feathers…a lot. Last year there was a small misunderstanding (The Easter Bunny).

This year, the feather somehow landed here? Veronica got all worked up. Apparently you can only buy them in Sweden…daaa, no such silly tradition in this country!

FYI, Swedes have the craziest traditions, don’t get me started on Midsummer, and the little frog dance…Google it, you’ll understand.

IMG_8581.jpg

I’ve said this before, Baby L has too much stuff and I am a firm believer in sharing. She can take my toys but then I should be able to play with hers.

Unfortunately Veronica does not agree, why is that?

IMG_8585 2.jpg

The dental floss I’ve had my eyes on for a long time. When an opportunity occurred, I jumped on the occasion…unfortunately “someone” caught me.

IMG_8679

I found this empty bottle, in the laundry room. C’mon, IT’S EMPTY and it’s an eco product!!

IMG_8717.jpg

oh yeah…hm… then there are the Uggs. I did NOT break them, I fetch them downstairs when I’m alone. (The basement is like a sunken ship full of treasures).

She doesn’t even like them, she only uses them for our evening walks. God forbid she’d NEVER wear them to go shopping or in broad daylight. Too embarrassing, so she thinks.

IMG_8569 2

And then there was this other time…hmmm…I think I’d better stop talking now… you get the gist of it…much ado about nothing! You agree? Don’t you?

Incidentally I have adopted a very successful attitude. I put my head down and give her the “I’m sooo sorry look”.

Trust me, it ALWAYS works… Veronica is such a softie, I even suspect she thinks I’m funny. And everybody knows Marina Abramovic is a star.

Authors note: Felicia seems to need her public when performing one of her “creations”, I’m usually nearby. (Except basement episodes).
